Seattle needs leaders capable of fighting for safe and clean neighborhoods, efficient transportation, quality schools and excellent customer service. Equally important, Seattle needs leaders who listen and track with the voice of its people; leaders willing to empower the people. That is why I demanded and secured funding for the development of a public engagement portal that allows the public to be heard during major decisions; required the opening of electronic city data such that the public can have open access to it and enhance its original use; and introduced legislation to give actual rate payers a louder voice in the governance of its largest utility, City Light. My commitment to the people of Seattle is clear. My values are proven.
I am one of you.
Growing up in a working class Seattle household, my parents showed me the values of leading by example and uniting people. These values shaped my career as an attorney, father of three great kids and community volunteer.
For 30 years I’ve been on the front-line helping kids and workers needing a voice. At 16 I began tutoring children at Seattle’s Rotary Boys and Girls Club. At 20, on a weekly basis, I tutored inmates at Monroe Reformatory helping them obtain their G.E.D. and rehabilitate their lives. As an attorney I’ve helped disadvantaged women start businesses and seniors understand their legal rights. Now, as a City Councilmember, I will continue to build a city where people and businesses can reach their potential…that is what I am about and why I ask you, in a spirit of humility and service, to help me seek re-election.
We are on a great journey together.
